In 1849, in the Paris cemeteries of Pere Lachaise and Montparnasse, Sergeant Francois Bertrand started digging up corpses with his bare hands in order to have sex with them. A man with violent torture fantasies, he also liked biting into corpses and leaving toothmarks all over them. Bertrand was caught and convicted on 15 counts, but only served a year in jail. He committed suicide a year after his release.
