Cornelis Dyusart (1660–1704) – the Netherlands artist and the engraver, the pupil to Adrian van Ostada. In 1679 at the age of 19 years it was admitted to guild St. Onions (something like trade union of artists). As well as pictures to Adrian van Ostada, pictures and Cornelis Dyusart’s engravings allow to plunge into life of that time.

Cornelis Dyusart, «A big prize in a lottery». Midday, bright sun, though not hot. Gorodskaya Street: the powerful arch, behind it – sharp roofs of houses is visible. At house doors – the woman in joyful surprise lifted hands, before it – the long-haired child watches the events.
Before them performance is played: the trumpeter in a wide-brimmed hat with a feather (quite well-fad not to count chins) diligently blows a signal «Attention! In total to me!». The trumpeter is sent by any solid organization: on a pipe of a brush and something it seems штандарта. In the foreground – a teapot and a package with the sealing wax press in hands of the ostroborody and sharp-nosed character in a flat beret. Probably, it is the messenger. And subjects in his hands – for the woman.

Joyful little men and barking (not that from delight, not that for a rage) a dog are more to the right visible.
The signature under a picture: «Delivery of a big prize in a lottery». It is logical to assume that a big prize – not a teapot. A teapot – a part of a prize. And the pleasure reason – in an envelope. Most likely, there is no money, there the document testifying to a prize and allowing to receive money, most likely, in lottery management.
Why there is a lot of noise round such event? It is the advertizing action forcing the population to buy lottery tickets in hope of a big roll.
Who did everything organize it? City authorities. Up the time of emergence of this engraving the lottery in a look habitual for us was known more than two hundred years. Also there was it thanks to family of one of last Yana van Eyka’s great artists (1385–1441).
Jan van Eyk was born in the Northern Netherlands, studied at the big brother. By forty years reached such level of skill that became the court artist of duke Burgundian Philippe III Dobrogo (we will add – and generous, he well paid to the artist for works). Jan thanks to the duke traveled much and wrote much. Its largest work – the Gent altar on which he worked 10 years: some circles, 24 pictures, 258 figures.
E.Gombrikh in the writes «Art stories» about Jan van Eyka: «By universal recognition, the most courageous opening which have designated a change in art development (mankind), belong to painter Jan van Eyk».
Widow Yana van Eyka, celebrating the twenty fifth anniversary from the date of his death, organized on February 24, 1466 a lottery in which each, bought lottery ticket could participate. It is very probable that in a lottery were not only winnings, but also ware (for example, works of the artist).
The income of a lottery was directed on support of needy citizens. («After 1466 in Belgium every possible lotteries thanks to which chapels, almshouses, water channels and port constructions» were constructed were carried out. Wikipedia.)
The lottery was a subject not for one artist. On a set of pictures and engravings it is possible to see both draw, and lines for receiving results. But Dyusart informed to us a sketch (it is possible to tell – the dramatized representation) deliveries home a big prize.
