During the interview, most members agreed that communication related to personal experience and feelings helped them to release the tension in the discussion and resulted in them being more satisfied with the learning process. Thus, socioemotional discussion is positively related to the satisfaction with collaboration process (p10). In the interview, we also find that members who have held back on their opinions in the discussion in favor of overall group harmony expressed negative feelings towards the virtual team process. Thus conformity is negatively related to satisfaction with collaboration process (p11).
Moreover, group performance is positively affected by task-related acts (p12) as well as norms and rules acts (p13). Naturally, the emphasis on the task as demonstrated by task-related discussion and problem-solving should lead to higher group performance. On the other hand, norms and rules acts are important in helping the team function by dividing the task, setting priority as well as solving disputes, and thus contribute to the effectiveness of the team’s performance.
