The wreath – so is called by high ledges of the right coast of Klyazma, Oka and Volga from Kovrov with Vyazniki to the Average Volga region. Here and in Ulyanovsk the highest hill on the right Volga coast from time immemorial is called the Wreath. Exactly there the city was put, and on the Wreath there is its historical center.

Here it is necessary to consider that the Wreath is not a small hillock on the bank of Volga, and the real mountain in height of 150 meters over river level, and slopes of this mountain too serious.
From I.N.Ulyanov’s square to the Wreath distance not so and big, but load of streets was such that we stood more, rather than went. From the point of view of to look at the city from a car window it very much even it is good, but here time for such movement a great lot is spent.

On the way we slightly were late on the bridge through Sviyagu. Frankly speaking, I never met earlier the river, and rather big in which water not only flew downstream, but also rose in air in the form of a number of the fountains established directly under water.
– Cool it turned out, – my ten years’ daughter commented. It was necessary to agree with it, really not absolutely usually and habitually, but it is very beautiful.
Then the car left the Ulyanovsk State university which cases ran up along the river bank. We go further and literally we will come across the most curious genre sketch of the beginning of the last century. The street there does easy turn on which we hanged for few minutes, but they sufficed not only to make a photo, but also to understand, in honor of what these two in ancient clothes on a column got. Though, to tell the truth, without the aid of our guide all this not at once would guess.
And so, it appears, in the second half of century before last Simbirsk in a night-time was almost dark. Judge, unless it is possible though somehow to shine the provincial city, using only 302 lamps filled with surepny oil? Four streets most that on are central, still barely it is possible, and further that?
The best city minds were engaged in the solution of this major problem, after all already in the majority of the provincial cities for street lighting gas lamps were used. Simbirsk obviously lagged behind. But there was the project consisting in construction in the city of power plant for modernization of a city water supply system and at the same time of illumination of city streets.
The power plant was constructed on January 1, 1913, and 4000 bulbs in houses of rich citizens, in buildings of Town council and the Duma, and also on 132 lampposts placed on 10 central streets of Simbirsk at the same time flashed. Here in memory of this significant event exactly in 100 years near a building of that first power plant, which in itself is an architecture monument, and there was this curious genre sketch executed from anti-vandal plastic with a metal column in the middle.
Feofan Volsov, the architect who created a power plant building, tried to transfer appearance of a construction its importance for the city. The facade is framed with the obelisks reminding of temples of the Sun in Karnaka and Luxor. In idea of a construction the thought that just as the sun daily rises over the earth is concluded, and electric illumination of Simbirsk will bring heat and will inhale an additional impulse of vital energy in a development of the city.
By us the palace of creativity of children and youth slowly crept. Naturally, we guessed at once that else quite recently there was a palace of pioneers. And it is valid, in this building since 1970 the Ulyanovsk regional palace of pioneers took place.
At last we approached on 30-letiya Pobedy Square, found a parking lot and went on foot to the Glory obelisk. Soon stopped at sculptural group «To children of war it is devoted». The girl with a small knot in hands and the boy carrying a sledge with firewood, dressed in winter clothes, personify all children who have survived and victims in days of the Great Patriotic War. Children slowly go towards the Victory obelisk, and it very much and very symbolically. This monument appeared on the area to the 70 anniversary of the Great Victory.
We approached almost closely to huge laying, and it was somehow lost at once. No, here it costs near, huge and majestic, with sparkling in sun beams a monumental star at top but to see and realize this greatness, it is necessary to depart, of course, far away. Already from the name follows that this area in 1975, exactly by that day when it is national, with the real scope is constructed, the thirtieth anniversary of the Great Victory was celebrated. The area in honor of the Victory in Ulyanovsk differs from the similar areas which are available most likely in all cities of our country. This difference in something compelled, after all a place for its creation is chosen on the edge of the Volga slope. Therefore it is composite it two-story. On the first, the highest, the obelisk with placed slightly sculptural group of winner soldiers stands apart, and the Eternal flame and all other elements of a memorial are below on the bottom circle.
On the center on a front part стилобата the inscription is engraved: «Nobody is forgotten, nothing is forgotten», and memorial boards with the list of all 57 inhabitants of the Ulyanovsk region, awarded ranks of the Hero of the Soviet Union are on the right side fixed.
And near a balustrade which frames the top level of the area and from which the fine view of Volga opens, there is a modest monument in the form of a sundial with an inscription: «To adults and children, the killed who have been stirred up in captivity, missing persons».
On the bottom circle there is a bronze bowl with a star with an eternal flame, a row on the granite polished wall engraved names of the soldiers who were lost during war. Natural continuation of memorial ensemble are monuments to the soldiers-ulyanovtsam who were lost in Avhan and Chechnya. Around fresh flowers are landed.
From 30-letiya Pobedy Square the central highway of Ulyanovsk – Goncharov Street begins. Walk on this street the foot part of our excursion also proceeded.
