“So, Can I See You Again?”

What is it, finally, that we really look for in a mate? Men and women report that at the top of their list is mutual attraction and love (Buss et al., 2001). In addition to this, people are in surprising agreement on what other factors they want in an ideal partner. A study of homosexual, heterosexual, and bisexual men and women showed that, no matter what their sexual orientation, gender, or cultural background, all really wanted the same thing. They wanted partners who had similar interests, values, and religious beliefs, who were honest, trustworthy, intelligent, affectionate, warm, kind, funny, financially independent, dependable, and physically attractive (Amador et al., 2005; Toro-Morn & Sprecher, 2003 ). Now that doesn’t seem too much to ask, does it?
