Charles Dickens

As well as featuring fallen women in his novels Oliver Twist and David Copperfield, Charles Dickens was a campaigner for social justice. He wrote a leaflet to persuade prostitutes to come to Urania Cottage, a kind of rehabilitation centre he founded with friend Angela Burdett-Coutts in 1846.
