KAMA SUTRA
These ancient Indian texts by philosopher Mallanaga Vatsyayana are actually mostly about love. A small section deals with sexual behaviour and positions, but rather than being a sex manual as is often thought, the general theme is caring and etiquette, including cooking and calligraphy. The work focuses on partnerships rather than the individual. It promotes mutual sexual appreciation and pleasure as something to be respected rather than be ashamed of.
‘Here’s how men think: sex, work, food, sports and lastly,
begrudgingly relationships. And here’s how women think:
relationships, relationships, relationships, work, sex, shopping,
weight, food.’ Carrie Fisher, Postcards From The Edge, 1987
