After scandalous divorce with the first spouse, Ekaterina Aragonskoy, Henry’s life went on the inclined. One divorce behind another. Numerous scandals, suspicions in changes, and, despite presence of young wives which was six, Henry constantly got also mistresses.

Anna Klevskaya became the fourth spouse of the loveful king. Future queen of England was born in Dusseldorf. Anna’s distinctive feature if to consider it as Henry’s next wife, that after divorce with the king it remained is live, whereas her some predecessors finished not in the best way. Moreover she managed to remain with "being" in the friendly relations. The first spouse, Ekaterina, after unfulfilled dream to present the successor to the kingdom, got a divorce and got to disgrace. And Anna Boleyn at all executed for suspicion in change. The third spouse Jane Seymour did not manage to make angry anything the monarch – she died from a maternity fever, having presented Henry the long-awaited son.

Not for long the king mourned over loss of the spouse and together with the advisers already began search of a suitable candidacy. Most Henry listened to Thomas Cromwell and decided to stop the choice on Anna Klevskoy. Certainly, the king was pleasantly surprised by beauty Anna which portrait was written by artist Hans Holbeyn Mladshy. But before seeing a portrait, it was required to write and deliver it at first to England, and in communication by it there were some funny things upon which it would be necessary to dwell.

Before invented the photo, the organization of marriages was accompanied by considerable number of misunderstanding. Grooms were not always happy that future wives represented them. Lack of authentic data on characters of companions of life could play a pivotal role in contact establishment between young people. Often it was necessary to do courtship in absentia. In most cases ambassadors could exaggerate a little beauty or, on the contrary, hide shortcomings of candidates.

Court its Majesties Christopher Mont went to Germany to estimate future spouse of the king. He tried to express the opinion on the princess loyally, having reported that princess Anna «as is beautiful, as well as the duchess Milan». It puzzled Henry. After all all know that the duchess Milan did not differ a pleasant exterior. Therefore it sent the portraitist to Germany. In some weeks Anna’s portrait was ready. Having received it, the king remained is happy and gave the consent to wedding. Thomas Cromwell achieved desirable and was sure that concluded the good bargain. As he was mistaken!

Ambassadors of German relatives of Anna arrived to England on September 24, 1539 for the final statement of all details of future marriage. Negotiations passed rather successfully then preparation for wedding began. Henry waited the bride with huge impatience in Greenwich, but Anna was late in Calais because of bad weather. On December 27 it crossed English Channel and went on a meeting with the future spouse. It was waited by huge disappointment. The king brought gifts for the princess, but having seen that from itself Anna represents, refused to give them., It seems, he even exclaimed with frankness peculiar to it: «What it for a Flemish mare?!»

Upon return to Greenwich Henry called to itself Cromwell and chided it «on the first». The king completely was disappointed in the bride and told that will not cancel wedding, being afraid of the international scandal, but for it it everything will be the farce. Henry VIIIth married Anna Klevskoy. After marriage night its disgust only amplified. Henry began to look for the reasons for divorce and found one rather weighty.

By 1540 he remembered Anna’s unfortunate engagement and the duke Lotharingian. Under laws of that time, the signed document on the first betrothal served as a sufficient occasion to consider the subsequent marriage void. Therefore Henry grasped at this idea, as «drowning for a straw». Anna so fell in love with England and wanted only one – to receive royal board and to get own lock in Richmond. Or perhaps the woman was cleverer, than seemed, and wanted independence, freedom? It is better, than with a shame to return home under sneers court and eventually to appear married again and it is not known for whom.

On July 7, 1540 Henry’s fourth marriage was officially cancelled. Only a year held on their marriage, but business on it did not end. Henry blamed the portraitist and Thomas Cromwell for the humiliation caused to it. Marriage swindle became for Cromwell a fatal flaw. It once and for all lost trust of the king and to the official decision on divorce was concluded in the Tower, before adjudgement.

And what became with Anna? It is known that her did not execute and did not send in a monastery. The king who did not take out Anna as the wife, warmly called it – «the beloved sister», as became her informal title after divorce. Court loved Anna for her kindness and hoped that Henry will marry again it after Ekaterina Howard’s execution. It did not occur, though, according to some sources, advisers of the king addressed to it with such offer, but he refused. In July, 1543 Anna was present on Henry’s wedding and his sixth wife Ekaterina Parr and sincerely rejoiced to happiness of "young".

Anna endured the husband Henry, his son Edward and was present on crowning of his oldest daughter – queen Maria. Shortly before the death, from a permission of queen Maria, Anna moved to the estate of Chelsea once belonging to the fifth spouse of the king, Ekaterina Howard. Where she also died on July 17, 1557. In the will she wanted to thank everyone who to it was kind. Elizabeth ruling at that time, received some part of ornaments and also did not miss Anna’s last will from attention to take to itself on service the girl who served it.

Anna Klevskaya, «the beloved sister of the king» Henry VIIIth, was buried in Westminster abbey.
