Third Research Question

To address the third research question which focused on the input that e-daters received from the environment, we examined the input that the e-daters received from others, such as the number of “hits” on their Match. com profile, the number of winks made to them, the number of e-mail
messages sent to them, and the number of instant messages sent to them.

Using a t-test for independent samples analysis, we compared the behaviors ofmales and females. Table 3 shows these differences. As indicated in Table 3, the male and female e-daters differed significantly (p < 0.05) on three of the four behaviors in the table. Thus, females received significantly more hits, winks and e-mail messages. Also, although no significant difference was found between male and female receiving text messages, females still received instant messages more frequently than males.
