We also propose one mandate related to individuals, organizations, and, indeed, all of society. Harassment of all types needs to be subject to social sanction. Members of organizations and professions, whatever the level of their position, need to be held accountable for ethical conduct (Blevins-Knabe, 1992). Some colleges and universities define sexual in­volvements between faculty members and students they oversee as exam­ples of unethical behavior for members of the teaching profession or as constituting conflicts of interest (Barrett, 1993/94). Clearer and more def­inite boundaries such as these should be instituted in all organizational environments to ensure that sexual harassment is clearly identified and acknowledged as an abuse of power and therefore openly challenged and appropriately sanctioned.
